My Forrest Gump moment for today

Today I did something silly. But I do feel good about it in the end, albeit a little light headed. I might regret this in the morning but for the purpose of making me look all fit, strong and manly lets just pretend I’m happy with what I did.

It all started a couple of hours after lunch. I had gotten a phone call that gave me the utter shits so I decided that I needed to go for a jog to clear my head. Realising that the schedule for the rest of the day had been cleared up thanks to the call I decided that it was time to give myself a challenge – run as far as possible till you give up.

So I did. I started my trek and kept on going. I took a wrong turn and kept on going. I realised that I had been going in circles but I kept on going. Why? Fuck knows.

Eventually I managed to get out of the slums of Perth and found myself on the Canning River (the non swampy part). Wow this part of Perth is pretty during the sunset but the only people out to enjoy this spectacular view were a bunch of senior citizens walking their dog and a couple banging each other in the back of a Porsche Cayenne. Well, I assume they were banging as I didn’t have a good look. They could have just been jumping up and down on the lush interior that comes with such a prestigious car.

In the end I gave up somewhere in Bull Creek. I jumped on a train and went home. Upon arriving at home I decided to map out the journey and calculate the distance I ran. Thanks to me getting lost, encountering a bunch of dead-ends and having to double back multiple times, I managed to run a tad more than expected…

27 fucking kilometres.

Now to put that in perspective that’s like running from Midland to Fremantle – if you have super powers that allows you to defy the laws of physics by letting you run through solid matter.

To some, that may not be a long distance but I am a geek who does not look after his health very well. The last thing I ate was a double quarter pounder meal with added bacon. I’m surprised that I didn’t drop dead at the halfway mark.

I don’t really know why I’m typing this blog out right now… I think I’ll go and have a shower.

Then I might book an appointment with my doctor to get my head examined.

  • LOL nice work mate - so - Busselton Half Ironman for you next year...right? lol
  • I may have run that far, but I sincerely doubt I did it in any impressive time :)
  • wowser, nice effort on foot! i've been riding pretty much the same route (http://bit.ly/18YYSd) lately on my bike in the mornings, its pretty nice at sunrise too! And if i had my blinds open this arvo, I might have even seen you stumble past!
  • wow, that is a very similar route to me. I'll attempt it again now knowing where I'm supposed to go. Judging by your map, I think I ran an extra 5k thanks to not knowing where I went.

Might try jogging to Freo next time...

    uh... perhaps not.
