Mixtape Friday! : My top 10 hits from 1995

Ahh yes, 1995.
T’was a year that I remember… Vaguely.
A young Jerry Yang and David Filo incorporated a new web start-up called Yahoo!, Jacques Chirac is elected president of France and the final original “Calvin and Hobbes” comic strip is published. I on the other hand was still in high school considering the pursuit of a pharmaceutical career as chemicals really seemed to rock at the time.
It was also a year of awesome music with Tina Arena topping the charts with her album “Don’t Ask” and Scatman John was considered a musician. It was also the year when Daniel John from Silverchair called me a “fucked up cunt”.
Below is a list of what I considered the greatest songs ever to hit the charts that year. Love it or hate the music, I’m sure you’ll be able to sing along with at least half of these tracks.
Do you have any faves from 1995 that you’d like to share?
10. Sophie B Hawkins - As I Lay Me Down
Purely for the awesomeness that is Sophie B Hawkins’ hair. I mean honestly, that hair was beyond awesome.
9. Greenday -When I come around
The band that started my love for California Punk. Bands like NOFX and Rancid probably won’t ever exist again.
8. The Offspring – Self Esteem
My top 10 for 1995. #8 – Back when The Offspring were good. No really, they were good once. Honest.
7. East 17 – Stay Another Day
I’m Not ashamed to say that I saw East 17 in concert with Peter Andre. I’m ashamed to say I wore a Peter Andre tour shirt.
6. Nicki French – Total Eclipse of the Heart
Brings me back fond memories of being thrown out of James St Nightclub for being underaged. Whoopsie.
5. Outhere Brothers – Boom Boom Boom
My top 10 for 1995. #5 – This song just sums up how awesome my year 11 ball was. Just to clarify – it was pretty fucking awesome.
4. Take That – Back For Good
It disturbs me that I know every single word to a Take That song… Although it doesn’t surprise me.
3. The Cranberries – Zombie
Gotta love the Irish. This song also had a kickass Drum & Bass remix that I massacred my parent’s car speakers with.
2. Merril Bainbridge – Mouth
Oh I had such a HUGE crush on Merril Bainbridge. I really wanted to do bad things to her mouth.
1. Coolio – Gangsta’s Paradise
Not only does this top my chart, it also topped every major music chart in the world. Must of been Coolio’s hair.
